Charges have been filed against a juvenile and an adult for allegedly selling marijuana and vaping material at Whiteville High School.
John Timothy Woody, 47, of 217 W. Williamson St., Whiteville, was held under a $5,000 secured bond on charges of possession of cocaine and drug paraphernalia, according to Detention Center reports. The underage suspect was referred to juvenile justice.
The sheriff’s office reported that on May 2, a concerned citizen reported seeing a possible drug deal occur on the Whiteville High campus. The School Resource Officer made contact with the juvenile suspect, and confiscated marijuana and vaping supplies, according the to sheriff’s office.
The adult in the case was identified, and a search warrant obtained for Woody’s home on West Williamson Street. A quantity of cocaine was discovered during the search, and Woody was arrested.
Additional charges are pending, Sheriff Jody Greene said in a press release.
“Vaping products are not lawful for juveniles and anyone who buys for, or sells to a juvenile will be charged,” Greene said. “There will be a zero tolerance of narcotics on school campuses and thanks the school systems, parents, and concerned citizens for assisting in this effort to keep our children safe at school.”
The arrests are part of a continuing emphasis cracking down on drug sales on or near school campuses.
