A memorial ride in honor of Sergeant Luke Simmons of Lake Waccamaw will take place on Saturday, June 11. Registration is 9:30-10:30 a.m. at Cruzer’s Drive Thru in Whiteville. Kickstands will go up at 11:00 a.m. The cost is $20 a rider and $25 with a passenger. Cars and trucks are also welcome.
There will also be a raffle for a 12-gauge Bullpup shotgun. Tickets are $25 each with unlimited spots.
Simmons was honor graduate of his platoon in basic training. He served 8 years in the Marines, and was stationed in Quantico as a MP with H.M.X presidential security detail. He died suddenly at the end of February of this year. All proceeds from the event will go toward unexpected final expenses.
The ride route will leave Cruzer’s, go to Highway 74, and then to the Maco store at Highway 87. From Highway 87, riders will continue to Highway 17 to the Harley Beach House, and proceed to Highway 130. The pack will continue on to Hallsboro Road, travel down Sam Potts Highway, and end back at Cruzers.
