Pattie Sue Page Powell, 84, joined the Lord’s choir on June 17th, 2022 passing peacefully in her home. She was a loving wife, caring mother, and devout Christian.
Pattie is survived by her husband, Charles Mitchell Powell; her children, Mark Allan Powell, Kale Monroe Powell, and Michelle Patti Powell of Cerro Gordo, NC; her grandchildren, Emily Powell Evaro of Rural Hall, NC, Hunter Mark Powell of Fair Bluff, NC, and Colton Chris Powell of Cerro Gordo, NC; her sisters, Marjorie Sapp of Millsboro, DE and Bobbie Page Lundsford of Savannah, GA, and brother Mitchell Davis Page of Rock Hill, SC.
She was preceded in death by her father, Gordon Davis Page, mother, Hazel Turbeville Page, and eldest son, Charles Mitchell Powell, Jr. (Chris Powell).
Patti was born and raised in Cherry Grove, NC. Pattie graduated from Cerro Gordo High School in 1956 and married her childhood sweetheart on Christmas of 1957. They remained married for 64 years. Pattie joined the Cerro Gordo Baptist Church on April 16, 1978, and remained active for many years, singing in the church choir and helping with the children’s church. Pattie was a selfless woman and prayer warrior with a compassionate nature who was patient and forgiving. She always strived to walk the right path of the Lord and shared her faith with all who would listen.
Pattie worked as a telephone operator for Bell Telephone Company for years until her third child was born, when she became a full-time mother and homemaker. She worked in the family business as a contractor for different tobacco companies and had many happy memories about her days working on the tobacco market.
Pattie’s greatest joy in life was taking care of her family and her home was a haven to many children in the community, where she provided daycare and after-school care. Her sweet tea, hand-shelled peas from her garden, and school house candy remain a family and community favorite.
A visitation with family and friends will be held at 2 pm on Monday, June 20, 2022, at the Cerro Gordo Baptist Church, 257 Church Street, Cerro Gordo, NC. The funeral service will follow at the same location at 4 pm. Graveside service will follow immediately after in Cedar Grove at the Gowan Cemetery.
