Two solar projects in Columbus County will receive $6 million each in federal funding, according to the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture.
Arthur 2 LLC and Beckwith Solar LLC will receive the funds from the Inflation Reduction Act passed last week by Congress and signed into law by President Joe Biden.
Arthur 2 will purchase and install a 6.5 megawatt system that will produce 12 million megawatts its first year, the USDA said. Beckwith will build a 6.56 megawatt facility that is expected to produce 12.1 million watts. The two facilities will produce enough power for 2,217 homes, the USDA said in a press release.
The USDA said the funds will finance the construction, renovation, and/or purchase and installment of equipment to provide power for rural areas.
The fund will also help agricultural producers and small businesses purchase and install renewable energy systems while making energy-efficient improvements.
