Columbus County Transportation has been awarded a $280,000 federal grant.
The N.C. Dept. of Transportation announced today (June 29) that Columbus will receive the grant to pay for improvements to the county transit facility.
A DOT news release said the agency regularly partners with rural communities to identify competitive projects for submission to federal discretionary grant programs, prepares the grant applications, and administers the grants.
Two other regional transportation departments, Boone-Watauga and a consortium consisting of Camden, Currituck, Chowan, Pasquotank and Perquimans counties, received grants of $3.3 and $23.2 million each for similar projects.
