HighSchoolOT has released its third-annual all-state softball team which features the best players across all state associations. It’s no surprise that ball queens Karli Godwin and Chynna Patrick have their names on that list, once again making Columbus County proud.
There are 25 players each on the first, second, and third team, each with minimum requirements of at least two catchers, eight infielders, four outfielders, seven pitchers/two-way players, plus an additional four spots on each team, allowing more players of one of these positions to make team. There are also 50 honorable mention spots that have no position requirements.
Godwin was placed on the first team for the second time along with Katie Cozor, Taylor Apple, Emma Mazzarone, and Taylor Barlow.
She finished her season out her senior year at East Columbus Junior/Senior High School with a .731 batting average, 68 hits, 86 RBIs, 23 doubles, 1 triple, 20 homeruns, 64 runs, and 31 SBs with 35 BB. She was also named Gatorade’s 2022-2023 N.C. Softball Player of the Year for the first time in ECJ/SHS history. Godwin will be playing college ball for Oklahoma State University in the fall.
Chynna Patrick is a raising ECJ/SHS senior. She rose through the ranks and was placed on the honorable mention team following her impressive record her junior year last season. Her stats include a.411 batting average, 39 hits, 50 RBIs, 6 doubles, 10 homeruns, and 33 runs.
The Lady Gators were honored at the Lake Waccamaw Town Hall meeting in June for their record-breaking season.
