A woman told deputies she was strangled and sexually assaulted near Tabor City early Saturday morning.
The victim, who is in her 20s, told deputies she was dropped off at a gas station on the state line, and the suspect was at the station at the time. He offered her a ride home, the report said, and she agreed.
He is alleged to have choked the woman and “physically and sexually assaulted her” during the ride to her home, the report said. Her cell phone, valued at $1,200, was damaged in the assault. The woman’s injuries were severe enough that she sought medical attention at Columbus Regional.
The investigation is continuing.
