Whiteville Police terminated a high speed chase involving a stolen vehicle Sunday out of safety concerns.
Officers were not informed that the vehicle was stolen until several hours later.
The driver of the Toyota SUV caught the eye of Whiteville Police on patrol at Columbus Corners shopping center at 4:42 a.m., according to the report. When an officer attempted to perform a traffic stop, the driver sped away. After a few minutes of pursuit, the chase was called off due to safety concerns.
The Toyota 4Runner was reported stolen from the Tilted Bucket florist at 9:45 a.m., according to reports. The vehicle was valued at $25,000.
The investigation is continuing.
