Cleanup in preparation of Saturday’s run honoring Trooper Kevin Conner has led to traffic headaches on the bridge bearing his name.
The Conner Memorial Bridge one the U.S. 701 Bypass in Whiteville has been closed most of the day while crews spruce the area up in preparation for Saturday’s event. The trooper was killed in the line of city during a traffic stop south of Whiteville in October 2018. The bridge was named in his honor in 2021.
Whiteville City Manager Darren currie said state highway crews are redirecting southbound traffic down Virgil Street to Lee, and Northbound traffic down Talbot to Madison.
The work should be completed today.
