Two people were arrested Saturday after an alleged coordinated effort to shoplift beer led to the discovery of drugs.
Whiteville Police arrested Dwayne McMillian, age 53, and Taralee White, 31, for second degree trespassing, larceny, and aiding and abetting larceny, according to detention center reports. McMillian was also charged with drug paraphernalia.
Both gave an address in Elmira, N.Y. on arrest reports. They were released on unsecured bonds.
Just before 9 a.m. Saturday, the couple allegedly took two 12 packs of Budweiser beer and an 18 pack of Bud Light from the Speedway store on Powell Boulevard and fled.
When police caught up to the two, officers found a plastic bag that appeared to contain trace amounts of narcotics, along with two lighters and two small metal pipes suspected of being used to consume drugs.
