Child Hit in Friday Shooting

A small gun

A child was shot and injured Friday after someone opened fire on a home near Whiteville.

The sheriff’s office is investigating three separate reports of gunfire damaging property over the weekend.

Around 10:30 p.m. Friday, deputies were called to the 1800 block of Millie Christine Road, Whiteville. A woman and her boyfriend, along with three children, ages ten, nine and four, were in the home when an unknown person opened fire on the home. The nine-year-old was taken toc Columbus Regional for treatment. The child’s condition was not immediately available.

Around a half hour earlier, deputies responded to the 4000 block of Pocosin Road on another shooting. The victim in that case said someone in a dark car fired shots at him as he was driving home. He was not injured.

On Sunday, a resident of Williamson Trail in Evergreen called 911 after a shot struck his home. No one was hurt, and damage was minimal.

All three cases are under investigation.
