Deputy Escapes Injuries; Suspect Doesn’t Escape Charges

Antonio Goodman (CCSO Detention)

A suspect who allegedly ran over a deputy’s foot with his car while escaping a traffic stop was arrested the next day – when he might have gotten away with a warning ticket.

Antonio DeWayne Goodman, 32, of 117 Canyon Dr., clarendon, was held under a $1,000 secured bond, according to detention center reports. He was charged with fleeing to elude arrest, resisting an officer, assault on an officer, and reckless driving.

The sheriff’s office reported that on July 18, a deputy was parked at the intersection of Swamp Fox Highway East and Peacock Road around 2 p.m.  when he saw a silver Dodge Charger with black tinted windows, including the windshield, approach the intersection. The deputy stopped the vehicle, told Goodwin that his windows were illegally tinted, and asked for his license and registration.

The deputy wrote a warning ticket for the tint violation, and as he went back to the Charger, the report said he smelled marijuana. He asked Goodman to exit the vehicle, the report said, but Goodwin refused.

“Mr. Goodman refused to get out of the vehicle and begin to roll up the window,” the report said. As the deputy was attempting to open the car door, Goodman allegedly “put his vehicle in drive and drove over the deputy’s right foot with the left back tire.”

The deputy then gave pursuit with his patrol vehicle, but lost sight of Goodwin, the report said. Another deputy arrested Goodwin the next day without incident.
