North Carolinians can celebrate their freedom with some free fishing time Thursday.

In honor of Independence Day, no fishing license is required for anyone who fishes on July 4  between the hours of 12 a.m.-11:59 p.m.. The Wildlife Resources commission (WRC) said the free day is for residents and visitors.

Anglers must follow North Carolina fishing regulations, including length and daily possession limits and bait and tackle restrictions.

Anglers in need of equipment can go check out the WRC  Tackle Loaner Program.
