Tabor Talk for July 17

By Cynthia Nelson

Greater Tabor City Chamber of Commerce

We would like to devote this column to an upcoming event.  We hope all of you will help spread the word on the following September event.

In remembrance of 9/11, the Greater Tabor City Chamber of Commerce and the Tabor City community will host a Heroes Cruise-in and Parade on Saturday, Sept. 14.

The Cruise-in is for all first responders, including fire, rescue, and law enforcement. We also plan to have telecommunicators, military veterans, classic cars, trucks and motorcycles participate. We appreciate all of you!

At 4 p.m. all participants will cruise into downtown Tabor City. We would like everyone that will to park your vehicles and display them in the designated areas for the public to see. We want everyone to have the opportunity to stop by and see this display of our history and say thank you to our heroes.

At 7  p.m., we ask that all of the Cruise In participants, including participating fire, rescue, law enforcement and veterans prepare to line up to ride through the Hometown Heroes Parade with lights on. This will be a magnificent sight and will also be a very humbling experience for all of us. May we never forget 9/11/01!

Food, soft drinks and water will be available for purchase for those who would like a bite to eat and need to quench their thirst while visiting. Several area restaurants will be open as well.

Please let us know that your Fire, EMS, LEO department or veteran group will participate and/or that you will bring your car, truck, etc. by calling Cynthia Nelson at 910-840-0292 or 910-377-3012. We consider it an honor to hear from you!

If you’re interested in participating in the Cruise In, you may also call Tiger Lovette at (843) 333-0947.

Please know that all veterans and military personnel are also invited to participate in the parade.

Our inaugural BBQ contest will take place on Sept. 14 as well. Look for more details and upcoming events to be shared in the weeks ahead.
