District Attorney Jon David was recognized by Attorney General Josh Stein Tuesday for David’s efforts to combat opioids, violent crime and child abuse.
David, who is chief prosecutor for Columbus, Bladen and Brunswick counties, received the Attorney General’s Dogwood Award at a ceremony in Wilmington. The Dogwood Award is given to people who work to improve the “health, safety, and well-being of their fellow North Carolinians,” a press release from the Stein said.
David was recognized for his efforts to prosecute violent criminals and child abusers, and his ongoing work on the opioid crisis
“Jon David has been an asset on North Carolina’s Fentanyl Task Force and with our work to prevent child abuse and prosecute violent crimes,” said Stein. “I appreciate his commitment to keeping the people of Baden, Brunswick, and Columbus Counties safe.”
“I am humbled to receive this prestigious award and I accept this honor on behalf of my entire team at the District Attorney’s Office,” said David. “Our success in combatting the opioid crisis and in investigating and prosecuting old sexual assault cases depends heavily on our enduring partnership with the Attorney General’s Office. I am grateful to Attorney General Josh Stein and his staff for their sincere commitment of time and resources to southeastern North Carolina.”
Other recipients included Carolina Beach Police Chief Vic Ward; former Farm Bureau president Larry Wooten; Wilmington police Outreach Officers Eboni King and Ben Cookson; Pender Sheriff Alan Cutler, and others.
The awards were handed out during a combination official visit and campaign trip to Bladen and Brunswick counties.
