The National Weather Service has released its winter outlook for North Carolina, and it’s not good unless you’re a mosquito. The extended forecast calls for a warm, unusually dry winter throughout the southeast. The strengthening La Nina cycle could lead to drought conditions by next spring.

The Whiteville Police Department is asking if there were anyone in the area of 1000 block of S. Franklin Street that witnessed a motor vehicle collision on November 9, 2024, between the time of 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m., please contact Lt. Thomas Riggins or Officer M. Cruz 910-642-5111.

Traffic on U.S. 74 was tangled Monday night and again Tuesday morning due to major collisions. A logging truck and armored car struck several vehicles near Chadbourn Monday evening just before 6:00 p.m. Three people were seriously hurt in that crash. Another wreck near Delco Tuesday slowed traffic for more than an hour. We have reached out to the Highway Patrol for more details.

Three homes were struck in a drive by shooting on Wright Road Monday. The sheriff’s office said most of the homes were occupied at the time of the shooting, but not all the residents were cooperative. No injuries were reported.

Donayre Cancer Center and the Whiteville Police are collecting food and essentials for the patient pantry at the center. The items needed include nonperishable foods and canned meat and personal hygiene products. Donations can be dropped off at the Whiteville Police Department on Columbus Street, or the Donayre Center at 500 Jefferson Street. Call 910.640.4077 for more.
