On Wednesday evening at Southeastern Community College there was an accidental firearm discharge on campus when a firearm fell from a vehicle, causing a self-inflicted injury.  The individual was transported to Columbus Regional Healthcare.  No other individuals were involved, and at no time was there an active threat to students, faculty, or staff.  Southeastern Community College is fully cooperating with local law enforcement in their investigation.  You can read more about this later in Columbus County News.

A traffic stop led county vice and narcotics agents to a major drug arrest November 27. Zaki Butler, age 44, was jailed on trafficking opiates and other charges, and held under $500,000 secured bond. Butler was arrested after information developed during a traffic stop near Pine Circle Road led to the discovery of heroin, crack and powder cocaine.

 

Boondocks Adventure Farm’s “Christmas in the Boondocks” made its seasonal debut over the weekend in Nakina.  It’s a one-of-a-kind Holiday Lights and Entertainment Show that takes place from 5pm -10pm every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday through December 23rd.   It’s fun for the whole family with plenty to see and do.

 

State Supreme Court candidate Jefferson Griffin and the state Republican party are challenging 60,000 ballots statewide, as fewer than 800 votes separate Griffin and incumbent appointee Allison Riggs. Republican Griffin is a former prosecutor and member of the National Guard, while Democrat Riggs became well known for her support of the BLM riots in 2020. She was appointed to the Sixth Seat on the state’s highest court by Governor Roy Cooper.
