A head-on collision on Hallsboro Road South near Barney Tyler Road claimed one man’s life Friday afternoon.
Around 3:45 p.m. Clay Hagood, a former Tabor City and Whiteville police officer, died at the scene. He was driving a 2007 Chrysler. Trooper T. Bryan of the Highway Patrol said Hagood crossed the centerline while heading north, and struck a Honda van driven by Nancy Knight head-on. Knight sustained serious injuries, Bryan said.
The crash occurred one-tenth of a mile north of Barney Tyler Road, and snarled traffic for a time. Hagood lived near the crash scene.
