Hey everyone, Meteorologist Christopher Cawley here with your weather update for Thursday, December 12, 2024.
This update won’t be nearly as lengthy as yesterday’s, as there’s not as much to talk about.
We’ll have a bright sunny day today thanks to extremely dry air over the county. The deeper trough over the eastern third of the country is still in place, though, and despite full sunshine, our highs will struggle to reach the lower 50s.
Weak high pressure ridging builds over the southeast tonight through Friday night. Tonight will be cold with clear skies and light winds… expect temps early Friday morning to be in the middle 20s, so make sure the kiddos are bundled up. Highs Friday afternoon will once again be in the lower to middle 50s. We’ll see some upper-level moisture start to move in on Friday, so there will be some increasing high cloudiness. A slight onshore component to our wind flow will keep temps from dropping as cold Friday night — we’ll generally be in the lower to middle 30s across the county.
For Saturday into Sunday, a little frontal boundary wants to become established right along the coast, with a large, sprawling area of high pressure over northern New York. A west-southwest flow allows our temps to jump into the lower 60s on Saturday. Meanwhile, our next storm system gets organized over the midwest and takes aim on the east coast for Sunday and Sunday night. The main “energy” with this system is modeled to go to our north, but a few scattered showers are possible Sunday into Sunday evening, with mild temps. Temps become even warmer early next week … highs into the 70s Monday and Tuesday.
As for the WOLFPACK game at Elizabeth City, northeast winds blowing off the ocean will make for a chilly game, but it won’t be anything even remotely like the bone-cutting cold experienced at Legion last Friday. Scattered clouds are likely but no precipitation… all in all a perfect night for football in what will be a fantastic matchup.
Thank you for reading and I hope you have a fantastic day!
