A missing juvenile in a stolen jeep was stopped in Columbus County early Wednesday after a pursuit from Bladen County.

Columbus deputies were contacted around midnight and asked to deploy tire deflation devices on U.S. 701 at Clarkton. Bladen deputies were involved in the high speed pursuit of a Jeep Liberty heading south on the highway.

The suspect diverted down side roads in Bladen County before hitting the roadblock, the report said, and continued into Columbus at U.S. 701 and Memory’s Corner, driving more than 110 miles per hour. The pursuit continued onto Wooten Store Road to Silver Spoon and N.C. 410, where the driver drove into a field near Oak Dale Baptist Church.

The suspect then fled on foot but was captured behind the church shortly after midnight Wednesday.

Deputies secured the Jeep, which was reported stolen in Fayetteville. Inside the vehicle was a backpack with an AR style pistol and magazines, parts to another handgun, scales, a substance believed to be marijuana, a cell phone, empty wallet and tobacco products.

The youth refused to provide identification, but deputies later made contact with his mother, who said he had been missing for two days.

The incident is still under investigation. No injuries were reported.
