An alleged illegal alien was jailed Thursday after a fight that left his brother hurt.
Hermilo Nunez Gutierrez, 21, was held under no bond on an immigration detainer. He was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, inflicting serious injury, and resisting an officer.
At approximately 10:20 Thursday, deputies were called to 86 Birchwood Trail, Chadbourn in reference to an assault. Deputies found Jorge Nunez lying in the front yard with multiple lacerations, swelling, and bruising to the face. Using a language like app, Nunez advised deputies that he had been severely beaten by his brother, Gutierrez, who was armed with a knife.
As deputies attempted to make contact with the suspect, Gutierrez fled out the back door of the residence on foot. While in pursuit, deputies heard a gunshot-like sound and issued multiple verbal commands, including in Spanish, for Gutierrez to stop. Deputies apprehended Mr. Gutierrez in a nearby field.
Klondyke-Chadbourn Fire and Rescue transported Nunez to Columbus Regional for treatment.
Due to “immigration issues,” the sheriff’s office said Gutierrez was denied bond and remains in custody awaiting court proceedings.
