A teen was arrested this morning (Monday) after allegedly bringing a handgun onto the Whiteville High School campus.
Tyquan Dreshaun Davis, 19, was arrested on a single charge of possessing a weapon on educational property. He was held under a $5,000 bond, according to detention center reports.
School Resource Officer R. Fowler reported that he was contacted by school secretary Patricia Sanderson after the handgun was found in Davis’ pack. The Taurus G2 was found during routine checks at the front entrance, the report said, and Davis was not aware of the discovery at the time.
Fowler secured the weapon and took Davis into custody, the report said.
Davis told Fowler that the handgun belonged to a relative, and it was not his gun. He also told deputies he had no plans to use the 9 mm at school, and didn’t know how it got in his backpack.
Fowler determine that Davis had no other weapons, and took him into custody.
