A North Hallsboro man is being held under no bond after he allegedly sodomized a child in his care and used a cigarette to burn the child.
Maurice Gregory Spears, 66, of Old Wilmington Road, was arrested Tuesday on charges of second degree forcible sex offense, sex acts by a substitute parent, and felony child abuse resulting in serious bodily injury.
Warrants show that Spears “assumed the position of a parent” in the child’s home, and raped the child anally. He is also charged with burning the child’s arms with a cigarette, warrants show.
The warrants did not specify the age or gender of the child, or how the child came to be under Spears’ control.
The investigation is continuing.
