A statewide burn ban is now in effect, as well as a local burn ban. That rain yesterday did very little to alleviate the drought conditions in our area, and County Fire Marshall Shannon Blackmon issued a ban on outdoor burning effective this morning, concurrent with the state ban.
The prohibition does not include enclosed grills. Most of Columbus County is currently in a moderate drought, with the extreme western portions of the county considered abnormally dry.
