Tabor City Police have arrested one of the men suspected of breaking into machines at a car wash and taking thousands of dollars.
Aquintus Shamar “Shootah Rum” Simmons, 29, was held under $7,500 secured bond, charged with felony larceny, breaking and entering, property damage, and breaking and entering coin machines. His address was listed on court documents as 330 W. Second Street, Tabor City.
TCPD reported that officers were called to 305 U.S. 701 Bypass just after noon on April 23. The owner of the car wash said the machines were burglarized April 15, but it took several days to obtain video footage of the suspects.
The footage showed a “crystal clear image” of one suspect, who was identified by Loris Police and followers on the TCPD Facebook page as Simmons.
Simmons and another suspect are alleged to have broken into 22 coin operated machines at the car wash after gaining entry through the main doors. Damages to the building and machines were estimated at $25,000, plus approximately $15,000 in cash and coins.
Simmons was arrested Monday on East Fifth Street. His accomplice is still at large.
