Southeastern Community Action Partnership will have a community resource fair on April 30 from 10 a.m-2 p.m. at Columbus County Social Services. Free lunch boxes will be given out to the first 100 people to arrive.
Applications will be accepted for CSBG, Head Start, and HCV. The department’s address is 40 Government Complex Drive in Whiteville.
Crossroads Church will be having a pork loin fundraiser on April 30 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. to help support their building fund for their new facility. Plates are $12 each and include three slices of pork loin, BBQ potatoes, green beans, a roll, and dessert.

The Greater Tabor City Chamber of Commerce will be having a pork bog plate sale cooked by Chef Richard Godwin on Friday, May 1 at Ooh La La Boutique. The purpose is to raise money for the Columbus County Independence Day annual fireworks celebration at South Columbus High School.
Plates are $10 each and can be purchased on site beginning at 11:30 a.m. Tickets for pre-orders are available at both the boutique and the chamber office. Ooh La La can be found at 206 South Main Street, and the office is located at 103 D East Fifth Street.
Congratulations are in order for the 2026 BBQ on the Bluff competition winners. In the Overall category, Team T&G took first place, Fair Bluff Fire and Rescue secured the second-place victory, and Craig’s Crew placed third.
In the Backyard division, first place went to Ziggy’s Place and Four Men, One Hog, One Fight came in second and took the Showmanship Award.

Speaking of Fair Bluff, the Fair Bluff Senior Center was selected at the recipient of the 2026 Ann Johnson Senior Center Award for Excellence in the Field of Aging. Each year, this honor recognizes a North Carolina facility that demonstrates outstanding leadership, innovation, and a strong commitment to serving older adults.
The We Care Ministry in Clarkton has announced their new dates and time for their community food distribution. The next open days are May 5, May 19, and June 2. The event is a first come, first serve drive thru service only, and you are asked to please remain in your vehicle. Everyone is welcome.

The Columbus County Community Farmers Market has new hours of operation. The facility will be open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3-7 p.m. and every Saturday from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Come shop fresh and local and support vendors and farmers in our community.
The market has fresh produce, farm-fresh eggs, homemade breads, jams and jellies, local honey, fresh juices, handmade jewelry, custom tumblers, crafts, games for all ages, live music, and so much more. It can be found at 132 Government Complex Drive in Whiteville.
Join the Community Art Journey in Lake Waccamaw each week to create, inspire, and connect with other artists. Open studio hours are every Wednesday from 1-3 p.m., pastel painting classes are every Thursday from 3:30-5:30 p.m. with Beth Olson, and Barn Quilt painting is open to individuals and small groups per your availability.
A two-part session Beginning Cross Stitch class will be held with part one on Friday, May 15 or Sunday, May 17, and the second portion is planned for Sunday, June 7. The studio is located at 112F Hillcrest Plaza at the Lake.
The Sheepdog Foundation is raising funds to put up a 100 foot chain link fence at their Hard Charger youth clubhouse in Whiteville. The center is located downtown in an extremely busy area, and the fence is needed to protect the children while they are outdoors and to deter individuals from loitering and trespassing on the property.
Any donation of any amount is appreciated and will greatly benefit the program. The cost of the installation is $2,000, and you can donate directly to the fund at www.sheepdogfdn.com/donations.
If you enjoyed all the buzz going on in April, then Tabor City has a big surprise in store for May. On May 7, Julio and the Saltines will be giving a free show at the Garrell Depot from 6-8 p.m.
Bring your favorite lounge chair, grab some food and refreshments from the food trucks, and move and groove to the sounds of spring and summer. This family-friendly event is for everyone. The depot’s address is 105 Railroad Street in Tabor City.

Finder’s Keeper’s Thrift Store wrote a huge $10,000 check to a very special organization in Whiteville last week. Living Hope Pregnancy Support Services provide free education and guidance to new and expecting parents along with pregnancy verification, free diapers, wipes, baby clothing, counseling, support, prenatal care, and so much more.
Finder’s Keeper’s takes in funds from the sales of items donated to the store and distributes them to community organizations, animal shelters, food banks, and much more. It can be found at 1138 South Madison Street in Whiteville.
The Veterans Memorial Park of America will be holding their Memorial Day ceremony and annual veterans luncheon on May 22 at 11 a.m. The meal is free to vets, but those who would like to attend must preregister by May 15.

Lakeside worship services will begin Memorial Day Sunday and will run every weekend through Labor Day Sunday starting on May 24. The services are held at 9 a.m. at the Lake Waccamaw Sailing Club. Located at 3100 Canal Cove Road. A list of speakers and singers will be announced soon.
