A two-day drug roundup put some “heat” on suspects in Bladen County.
Operation Heat Check led to the arrest of seven narcotics suspects in Bladen County on a number of charges, the Bladen County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release. Warrants ranged from cocaine and heroin to illegal firearm possession.
Officials seized firearms, cash and narcotics in the series of raids.
Among those arrested were
- Gary Carter, 65, Elizabethtown, felony possession of opiates; trafficking in opiates; possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver opiates; maintaining a vehicle or dwelling for drug activities; manufacture, sale or delivery of drugs within 1,000 feet of a school.
- Dashona Rhone Lewis, 31, Elizabethtown, failure to appear and probation violations.
- Faith Jamya Smith, 25, Elizabethtown, aiding and abetting felony larceny.
- Jeroid Steven Long, 38, East Arcadia, possession of a firearm by a felon; two counts each of trafficking in opiates and cocaine; and maintaining a vehicle or dwelling for drug activities.
- Miracle Jewel Handberry, 22, East Arcadia, two counts each of trafficking cocaine and opiates; felony possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver Schedule III drugs; maintaining a vehicle or dwelling for drug activities.
- Andre Matthew McKinley, 45, Lisbon, possession of a firearm by a felon and felony probation violations.
- Walter Matthew Owens, 43, White Oak, possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver cocaine; felony possession of cocaine; maintaining a vehicle or dwelling for drug activities; manufacturing cocaine; and felony probation violation.
All the suspects were held under secured bonds pending first appearances in court.
The operation was a joint effort of the sheriff’s office Special Operations and Intelligence Task Force and N.C. Probation and Parole.
