Hi again everyone, Meteorologist Christopher Cawley here with your weather update for Thursday evening, October 17, 2024.
As Cody Rhodes would say, “well, what do you wanna talk about?” There’s not much to discuss weather-wise other than a huge ridge of high pressure that will remain comfortably in position through the foreseeable future. There’s just nothing in sight that is going to budge this ridge and that means no rain … none … for the Whiteville area for the next 7-10 days.
Temperatures are likely to be above normal for a while as well. The Climate Prediction Center has the eastern half of the continental US under a likelihood of above-normal temperatures into early November, with below-normal precipitation amounts.

Speaking of long-term trends, this weekend I will have details on my winter outlook and whether or not, in my opinion, we have chances for seeing any snow here locally.
TROPICS: Nothing doing. That system I have been watching for the past several days is looking less and less likely for development due to hostile upper-level atmospheric conditions. The system with the better chance of becoming “Nadine” is expected to form in the western Caribbean. The only question is how strong will it be (strong enough to get the name?) before it goes ashore over the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico this weekend.
