A traffic violation led to the arrest of a Williams Tosnwhip man and his conviction for multiple drug felonies.

Johnathan Terrell Jordan, 36, was sentenced to 19-24 years in prison on Sept. 25, the sheriff’s office and district attorney said. He also faces a $500,000 fine. A Columbus County jury found Jordan guilty of two felony counts of trafficking heroin, two felony counts of trafficking opioids, and one misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia.

In June of 2022, the sheriff’s office said, two Narcotics Detectives were following Jordan’s Lincoln Town Car on F.M. Cartrette Road. The vehicle crossed the centerline several times, and detectives stopped Jordan due to “erratic driving and tinted windows.”

“Upon making contact with Mr. Jordan, detectives noticed a baggie containing a green leafy substance, later confirmed to be marijuana, in the vehicle’s cup holder,” the sheriff’s office said in a press release.

Jordan dropped a Crown Royal bag as he was exiting the car to get on his wheelchair, the report said. The bag contained heroin, Fentanyl, cocaine, Oxycodone pills and marijuana. More drug paraphernalia was found during a search of the vehicle.

Jordan was initially charged with six counts of trafficking opiates, and one each of possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver marijuana and cocaine, maintaining a vehicle for drug activities, and drug paraphernalia.

Sheriff Bill Rogers praised the Narcotics Unit for the arrest and investigation.

“This conviction is a testament to the dedication and tireless work of our Narcotics Detectives in taking dangerous drugs off our streets and making our community safer,” Rogers said. “We will continue to pursue those who engage in illegal narcotics activity in Columbus County.”

Superior Court Judge Tiffany Powers heard the case.
