Eleven months before filing begins, three candidates for sheriff have announced their intentions to run. Josh McPherson, and former deputy, detective and director of Animal Protective Services, said Monday he will run for the office in 2026. Two masked bandits allegedly robbed an Arn Ward Road family Saturday. The sheriff’s office reported that the victims were confronted by two men with a firearm.
The Franklin Street and Lee Street improvement project in Whiteville has been delayed slightly due to the holidays. City Manager Darren Currie said the city had to extend the deadline for contractors interested in bidding on the project due to city offices being closed during Christmas and New Year’s. The major project will replace stormwater, sewer and water lines before the NCDOT repaves and resurfaces both streets.
