Failure to Manage Millions of Dollar

Representative Brenden Jones called out former governor Roy Cooper and the N.C. Office of Resilience and Recovery in an X post Wednesday for failure to properly manage millions of dollars in relief for victims of Hurricanes Matthew and Florence.

A bill introduced this week will provide $217 million to finish all hurricane relief projects in the east, but with the office of state budget management will control the purse strings for NCORR. The Close Out Operations Providing Emergency Relief act – called COOPER for short – will require twice monthly progress and financial reports from NCORR. The agency was created by Cooper to oversee relief efforts for Matthew, then Florence, but has been plagued with financial difficulties and complaints.

Less half the home repair or replacement projects have been completed, nine years after Matthew and seven after Florence.
