I was in passing through Cerro Gordo last Wednesday on my way home and sitting tall in the parking lot of the Family Dollar was Traveling Tom’s Coffee truck. I think by now you have probably picked up on my level of addiction to coffee and the coffee shop life, so naturally I was curious about this, so I circled the store and pulled up. Like most readers, I’m always skeptical of food trucks. I love them and at the same time, never walk up to one with full confidence of what to expect.
So here is the whole take:
First off, the truck is very nicely presented. Attractive graphics and a clean overall visual presence set me at ease to their level of professionalism. The menu was clearly printed on the side of the truck, as was the owners and their location base: Columbus County.
Delynn and Kristin Hyatt operate this truck in our area weekly. They are available in the Columbus Regional hospital parking lot a few days each week and in Cerro Gordo and Chadbourn areas evenings throughout the month. You might find them in and around the Whiteville area and at sporting events here in CoCo. Don’t be afraid to stop and say hello. Sporting a solid coffee menu and fair prices, you won’t leave unhappy.
The menu, as I said, is clearly laid out on the side of the truck and ordering is easy. They run a full line of coffee drinks, frozen, iced, and hot/ They also serve signature teas and flavored mix-ins. If you like coffee, they have something for you. The video screens on the side of the truck kept showing me different options and really gave an upscale professional feeling the whole experience. I really wasn’t expecting this on this day.
I went for my standard “fancy” drink, the vanilla latte. I love that full bodied cup with frothy milk and a sweet hint of rich vanilla, and this one hit just right. It was a great cup! Just the right amount of espresso to make a statement followed by a sweet and creamy finish. I called my wife and told her about the find as I made my way home.
I was really well served by the attendant. She was polite and fun. We had a nice exchange and shared a few stories. Nothing to complain about during this visit.
Rating for Traveling Tom’s is simple, It gets a 5/5 for an encore-worthy performance. Thanks folks for bringing a quality product out to our folks!
As I say each week, get out and support some local folks and bring life to our local businesses! As always I am open to take your feedback or suggestions.
