Developing: Strong Storm Causes Damage in East End

Trees and a vehicle wreck have blocked U.S. 74 Eastbound in the Freeman area.

Jeff Reichert said he was traveling east on 74 near Livingston Creek Farmers Market when he saw trees falling into the roadway, and a Wall Recycling truck skidding out of control. Another truck, this one hauling a flat bed trailer, slid into the median and collided with the recycling truck.

At least one home was damaged when a tree landed on it during the storm.

Acme Delco Riegelwood Fire and Rescue crews are on the scene. Traffic is backed up almost to Bolton, Reichert said.

ADR asked motorists to use caution and patience while first responders clear the damage.
“ADR units are currently on scene of a multi-vehicle accident on US 74/76,” the station posted on social media. “At this time, the eastbound lanes are shut down while crews work the scene.
The current weather system has also brought multiple trees down in the area, creating additional hazards and slowing travel. Fire, EMS, and partner agencies are working quickly to clear the roadway, treat patients, and make the area safe.”
Motorists are asked to use alternate routes, using extreme caution and be patient while crews work to clear the roads.
“Your safety—and the safety of our responders—is our top priority,” the post read. “Slow down, stay alert, and give emergency crews the space they need to do their job.

This is a developing story.
