Wildfire conditions remain dangerously high across the state and southeastern North Carolina.
Strengthening winds, low humidity and warmer temperatures tomorrow may lead to increased fire danger, according to the National Weather Service.
A burn ban remains in effect statewide. All outdoor burning for any purpose is prohibited until conditions improve.
Currently the region is classified as having Severe Drought conditions. The ongoing drought has led to dangerously dry conditions, especially in areas with storm debris providing additional fuel for wildfires. Whiteville is now in its 15th day without measurable rainfall.
Statewide, 87 fires are being monitored by the N.C. Forest Service, including burns that have been extinguished. The Rosindale fire, now entering its second week, remains the largest wildfire in the state. The fire on the Bladen-Columbus line has been contained at 75 percent, and has consumed 742 acres, according to the NCFS.
