Here’s today’s Bottom Line
July has arrived, and with the arrival of July is the arrival of a prolonged and potentially dangerous heat wave that will last well into next week.
Extremely strong high pressure is parked over central Tennessee. This ridge will continue to strengthen through the holiday weekend, resulting in extreme heat over the eastern third of the nation.
The very latest modeling isn’t quite as robust with temps as previous modeling has been, but I’m not quite sold … I still believe we’re looking at several consecutive days of triple-digit heat. Fortunately the air will be (somewhat) dry, so heat index values probably won’t be much higher than the actual air temps … but heat advisories are still likely to be issued over the weekend.
Moisture starts to ramp up across the area early next week as the high pressure ridge pushes offshore. With the southerly flow on the western periphery of the high, not only will it remain hot, but thunderstorm chances start to increase as well. Summertime!
TROPICS: Essentially zero chance for tropical development off the coast at this time.
