In Tabor City, South Columbus remains unbeaten after they defeated West Brunswick 3-1 in girls’ volleyball on Thursday.
The Stallions are now 7-0 on the season. The Stallions defeated the Trojans 25-16, 24-26, 25-23, and 25-17. Kylie Norris led the Stallions with 10 kills. Teammates Anna Sellers produced nine kills while Brianna Price dealt out eight slams.
South Columbus will host county-rival West Columbus (1-2) on Aug. 31. West Brunswick falls to 2-6 for the year.
Also on Thursday, Whiteville visited Leland to take on North Brunswick. The Scorpions won 3-0 on scores of 25-15, 25-13, and 25-11. Adriana Gomez led the North Brunswick attack with five kills. Whiteville (0-8) will go to Dublin to face the West Bladen Knights (3-2) on Sept. 8. North Brunswick (4-2) will host New Hanover (3-7) on Tuesday.
East Bladen defeated Hobbton 3-1 on Aug. 27 in a Carolina Conference matchup. The scores were 23-25, 25-13, 25-15, and 25-12. The Eagles (1-0, 4-3) were led by Taylor Dowless with 10 kills and four aces. Addie Douglas added 15 digs for the Eagles in the win. Zannah Hair produced seven kills in the loss for the Wildcats.
East Bladen hosts Heide Trask (2-6) today. Hobbton (0-2, 2-2) will host Rosewood (3-3) on Wednesday (Sept. 2).
In the Swamp, East Columbus blanked North Duplin 3-0 on Aug. 25 by the scores of 25-23, 25-22, and 25-21. Journey Sutton led the Gators in the win with four aces. North Duplin’s Maggie Brown and Yesenia Gomes paced the Rebels with 10 kills each.
East Columbus moves to 1-0 in the Carolina Conference and 2-2 on the season. They will face West Columbus (1-2) on Tuesday at Lake Waccamaw. North Duplin (0-1, 5-1) will travel to Elizabethtown Tuesday to face the Eagles (4-3).
In Burgaw, Pender downed West Bladen 3-2 in volleyball on Thursday. The Patriots defeated the Knights by scores of 25-21, 19-25, 25-20, 23-25, and 15-6. The Patriots were led by Victoria Wells who scored 14 kills in the contest. Pope Greer dished out six aces and 10 kills in the loss for the Knights (3-2). Teammate Shanna Lewis added 10 kills in nine digs in the loss for West Bladen. Pender (5-3) will go to Jacksonville (8-1) today. The Knights (3-2) will host Whiteville (0-8) on Sept. 8.
