Damon Kempski was sworn in today as the new town manager for Lake Waccamaw. He was hired Tuesday night by a unanimous vote from the board of commissioners.

“We did not waste any time,” Mayor Daniel Hilburn said.

Kempski and his wife Beth were at Tuesday’s meeting of the commissioners when they unanimously voted to fill the position vacated by Gordon Hargrove earlier this year. Hargrove spent two years with the town before taking the job as town manager in Southport.

Kempski has a master’s degree in public administration from Clemson University. In 2019, he resigned the town manager’s post in Loris, S.C., where he was town manager for three years. He also spent three years there as parks and recreation director.

Kempski will be paid $71,000 a year until he completes the School of Government Administration course, when his salary will rise to $72,800.
