He went to the Chadbourn Police Department and reported the discovery, according to the sheriff’s office.Investigators said they expected to make a quick arrest in the case, but could not find sufficient evidence at the time lot take anyone into custody.
The victim had been dead for several hours when Watson contacted police, the sheriff’s office said in a 2016 press release. At that time, investigators had declared the killing a cold case, and asked for the public’s help to find any information about the murder.
Williamson, who was widowed, had not been in contact with her family since at least the day before Christmas Eve. The attack apparently began in a hallway and progressed to the bedroom where she was found.Watson was indicted by the Columbus County Grand Jury in January, and extradited from New York last week. Watson is being held in the Columbus County Detention Center under no bond.
