One man has been charged after allegedly dragging a motorcyclist under an SUV in December.
Warrants show Ricky Prevatte, 53, of Barnes Street, Lumberton, was charged with a single count of attempted first degree murder. He was arrested in Robeson County and transferred to Columbus.
The sheriff’s office reported that on Dec. 13, deputies responded to Rough Horn Road and Old Boardman Road to a report of a man being dragged beneath an SUV. A deputy found the motorcycle in the roadway on his arrival to the scene.
William Fowler was riding a motorcycle on Paul Willoughby Road. Prevatte was in an SUV when Prevatte sped off and pointed at Fowler. The SUV then ran over Fowler, and continued driving as he was dragged underneath. The motorcycle became jammed under the speeding SUV as it continued down the road.
Fowler was found on Paul Willoughby Road. He was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries.
Using surveillance footage and witness statements, investigators identified Prevatte and obtained warrants for his arrest.
