A Kelly resident has been charged with setting 18 fires during the burn ban earlier this summer, and he could face six additional charges in Columbus.
Roy Anthony Potter, 59, was arrested by the Bladen County Sheriff’s Office Monday afternoon (today). His bond was set at $45,000. Potter is alleged to have set 18 brush fires between May and August 9, the BCSO said.
Several of the fires threatened structures, and were large enough that Kelly Volunteer Fire Department required the assistance of the N.C. Forest Service and air tankers.
The BCSO said Potter is a suspect in six arson fires set in Columbus County during the same period.
This is a developing story.
