March 11, 1952 ~ August 12, 2021 (age 69)
Nancy Carol Barden, age 69, of Whiteville, passed away peacefully Thursday, August 12, 2021 at her home. She was born in Fayetteville, on March 11, 1952 to the late Thomas Vardell Barden and Elma Elizabeth Wilton Barden.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers Danny, Tommy, and David.
She is survived by two sisters; Julie Barden and Susan Shelley Sparrow of Whiteville and a brother; Ronnie Barden of Clayton, Ga.
Nancy worked eight years as one of the first female police officers serving Whiteville City. She worked as a physical therapy technician for Total Health and Rehabilitation for 30 years.
Her life was fulfilled by the love she found in animal rescue. One never knew next what creatures Nancy had taken in to rehab. She was always a ready haven for injured, orphaned, or deserted animals including numerous squirrels, a racoon, piglets, multiple song birds, two owls, a seagull, and an egret, their care willingly assisted by Julie, her sister.
Nancy was an active member of Columbus Humane Society. She fostered and helped find good homes for dogs, keeping the ones that were not adoptable or that she so closely bonded with and could not give up.
There’s a saying that you can tell a lot about a man by the way he cares for his animals. Nancy can be saluted for her unending sacrifices made in helping so many deserving creatures survive the odds.
It would so please her, in honor of her life, if donations would be sent to Columbus Humane Society for their spay, neuter and adoption programs at PO Box 742, Whiteville, NC 28472.
McKenzie Mortuary is serving the Barden Family.
