Whiteville Police jailed a woman after she allegedly shot a man, then spat on the arresting officer responding to the call.
Chiquita Jwander Powell, 33, of 222 W. Virgil St., Whiteville was arrested Thursday on charges of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, malicious conduct by a prisoner, resisting an officer, assault on a government official, and intoxicated and disruptive. Her bond was set at $21,500.
Powell is alleged to have shot Marquis Johnson with a .380 handgun Thursday, according to warrants. When Ptl. C. Lemmons attempted to take her into custody, warrants show she spat on him and fought with the officer.
