The county’s first highway death of the year occurred Wednesday, when a Clarendon man lost control of his car and crashed.
Gary Wayne Cartrette, 62, died Thursday from injuries sustained in the single-vehicle wreck. He lived on Farm Trail Road, Chadbourn. The crash occurred around 2:20 p.m.
The Highway Patrol reported that Cartrette was traveling south on Peacock Road when his 2017 Ford automobile went off the road to the right and struck a ditch. The vehicle overturned several times and came to rest on the side of the highway. The vehicle was traveling at the speed limit when it crashed. The car was a total loss.
Cartrette was taken to Columbus Regional by Klondyke Chadbourn EMS.
