The potential for bad weather has caused the Veterans Park Walk-a-Thon to go virtual. Participants are encouraged to pull on their walking shoes and log their miles throughout the month of February.

The Hearts and Vets Walk-a-thon hosted by the Veteran’s Memorial Park is now virtual due to the chance of inclement weather.

The countywide event was scheduled to begin Saturday at 10 a.m. in honor of February’s American Heart month, but it will now run through Feb. 28 at 5 p.m.
Folks are now asked to log miles at home, at the gym, in the yard, at school and any location available. The fee is $5, and you can register anything during the 31-day challenge.  All proceeds for the event will go the Veteran’s Memorial Park Never Forget Garden.
Participants are also encouraged to have individuals and local businesses sponsor them for the walk-a-thon to raise money for the park. Awards for different age groups that walk the longest and bring in the most money will be handed out on March 1.
To volunteer, participate, or become a sponsor for Hearts and Vets, call 910.840.3848. Checks should be made out to the Veteran’s Memorial Park of America and sent to P.O. Box 2046, Whiteville, N.C. 28472.
