Multiple Homes Hit by Gunfire; Two People Hurt

The sheriff’s office is investigating a series of shootings that occurred in the Clarendon community Thursday and Friday. 

The shooting incidents were among five that occurred between Sunday, Feb. 13 and Friday, Feb. 18. Several of the incidents occurred along Ten Mile Road, according to reports.

Six homes were struck by multiple shots at the Jake Godwin Mobile Home Park Thursday. On Friday, deputies were called back to Ten Mile Road to investigate another shooting involving a home. At least one person was injured in each of the incidents.

A man and two children scrambled for cover after someone opened fire from an automobile on Peacock Road Feb. 13. The victims were in the yard of the residence when an unknown car drove past and someone began shooting, according to the report. Five other people inside the home when the shooting occurred.

On Feb. 16, deputies were called to the 5700 block of Ten Mile after someone fired at least two shots at a home housing an adult and a juvenile. Two windows were damaged, but no one was injured.

Then on Thursday (Feb. 17), multiple deputies were called out to the Jake Godwin Mobile Home Park near Williams Road around 11:20 a.m. Six homes and at least one person was struck when a fusillade of rounds from multiple firearms tore through the mobile home park. Homes in the 2300 and 2400 blocks of Williams Road as well as three on AJ Godwin were struck by gunfire, causing from $500 to $1,000 damage to each property. 

Deputies reported finding a small number of empty 9mm, 7.62×39 mm, and 5.56 mm casings near another home in the 5400 block of Ten Mile. The home sustained $1,000 in damages, but the woman inside was not hurt.

On Friday (Feb. 18), deputies were called to the 3000 block of Ten Mile Road after someone opened fire on a home, storage building and Dodge Charger automobile. Total damages were estimated at $2,300. One person was injured in that shooting, and was transported by private vehicle to Loris McLeod Hospital.
