Hilton “Scrappy” Rice Holcomb, age 82, of Ocean Isle Beach, NC died Tuesday, May 10, 2022 in New Hanover Regional Medical Center, Wilmington, NC. He was born August 12, 1939 in Columbus County, NC to the late O. Glen and Theodosia Hendrick Holcomb. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Allen Holcomb, his brothers, Garnet Holcomb and Furman Holcomb and his sisters, Anne Williamson and Sharon Holcomb Enyart.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce King Holcomb of the home; his sons, Richard O. Holcomb and his wife, Jamie of Hillsborough, NC and Adam Green and his wife, Jana of Houston, TX ; his daughters, Michelle Holcomb and her husband, Michael Brown of Crowley, TX and Dorinda Glosa and her husband, Jim of Crystal Lake, IL; his step-daughter, Martha Strickland and her husband, Teddy of Wendell, NC; his step-son, Steve Lancaster of Angier, NC; his brother, John Owen Holcomb and his wife, Betty of Whiteville, NC; his “brother”, Tommy Jordan; his grandchildren, David, Joshua, Matthew, Rachel, Erin, Alex, Mary Ricci, Brandon, Brian, Dylan, Sophie and Emma; and his three great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Hilton was a Veteran of 42 years, serving in the US Air Force and NC Army National Guard. Scrappy, as he was known by most, was a master gardener and a proud member of the Republican Party.
His visitation will be held Saturday, May 14, 2022 from 1:00 to 2:00 PM in the Peacock Funeral Home.
His graveside service with full military honors will be held Saturday, May 14, 2022 at 2:30 PM in the Whiteville Memorial Cemetery with Mr. Lennon Smith officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions my be given to the Wounded Warrior Project, support.woundedwarriorproject.org or St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
