Chadbourn Police are holding their first “Community Safety Day” to help connect with area residents.
“This is a good time for people to come out and get to know their police,” Chief Ken Elliot said.
The event is Saturday from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. A bike safety rodeo and other kids activities will be featured. Residents can also register their golf carts, dispose of unwanted medications and examine an equipment display from the department.
The outreach event is designed to let citizens meet the department’s personnel, and hopefully foster more cooperation, Elliot said.
“We only have four sets of eyes on the streets,” he said. “There’s an average of 15 homes on every residential street here. That’s 15 extra sets of eyes.
“Our citizens are the community watch,” Elliot said. “We have to work together to keep our town safe. If you see something, say something. We can’t cover everything at once. We need every set of eyes and ears we can get to help us out.”
