As families try to find their footing after the pandemic, the First Baptist Church of Lake Waccamaw is preparing these folks and their children for cold weather with the church’s winter coat drive.
“Usually, people doing a coat drive would just collect coats and then send them off to an organization to distribute them,” said member Brianna Peters. “But we want to take another approach.”
The FBCLW will be collecting the winter garments and giving them out to the local community.
“We want to help those that we may bump into at the store or cross by on the road. We want to help kids at our local schools,” said Peters.
Not only is the organization asking for recipients for the drive, but they are also asking the public to search through their closets and consider donating unused hats, scarves, jackets, coats, or mittens of any size to the cause.
The First Baptist Church of Lake Waccamaw will be holding the event on Saturday, Dec. 3, immediately after the Lake Waccamaw Christmas parade. The drive will be held in the white building located behind the sanctuary, and each person must be present to receive a coat.
Anyone interested in giving donations is asked to contact Peters via her Facebook profile, Bri Bre, to make arrangements to drop off the items.
