County commissioners abruptly adjourned Monday’s meeting, postponing the entire agenda until Oct. 17.
The commissioners chambers were nearly full with a large crowd of both supporters and opponents of beleaguered Sheriff Jody Greene.
The board met in a special called session at 4:30 p.m. to discuss economic development and seek legal advice.
Chairman Ricky Bullard opened the meeting and immediately apologized to the audience. Bullard said that the board ”is aware” of the allegations against Greene. On the advice of counsel, Bullard said, the board could not comment or allow comments on the situation.
An unusually large number of deputies were inside the commissioner’s chamber and the adjacent hallway, and Whiteville Police were stationed outside. At least two private citizens also remained in the parking lot during the meeting.
