The North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences at Whiteville (NCMNS) will be making a splash during the month of June as they explore creatures who live on the land and in the sea. Come and join them as they learn about under water habitats and prehistoric lizards.
Playspace Pop-Up
The NCMNS will be hosting a Playspace Pop-up on Thursday, June 8, at 10:30 a.m. Children and their families will be learning about the difference between fresh water and salt water, and they will get the chance to paint with salt. This program is geared toward children 4-8 years old, but all nature lovers are invited to attend. No registration is required for this event.
Second Saturday Storytime: Ocean Habitats
Join the museum for Second Saturday Storytime on Saturday, June 10, at 10:30 a.m. Staff will be reading and speaking about oceans and the amazing creatures that can be found there. A nature-related activity will follow. This program is for kids ages 2–5 years old, but all are welcome.
Second Saturday Storytime is sponsored by the Columbus Council of North Carolina Reading Association in partnership with the NCMNS. The event is held every second Saturday of each month at the museum.
Thursday Storytime: Dinosaurs!
If you miss Second Saturday Storytime, you’ll get the opportunity to attend Thursday Storytime on June 15, at 10:30 a.m. This program is held every third Thursday of the month. Museum staff will be reading the crowd-pleaser Dinosaurs! Children ages 2-5 years old are invited to attend, but book-lovers of any age are encouraged to join in on the fun.
All About Turtles
The museum will also be offering a virtual ecoEXPLORE activity on June 15 at 4 p.m. The All About Turtles learning experience requires registration, and you can sign your child up by visiting https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZEpf-qhpzorHdFqSHhKE_axTBEnUcYH0XM6#/registration. This Zoom meeting is geared towards youngsters 5-13 years old, and the kids will get to see a live turtle on screen during the session.
Movies on Madison: Finding Dory
Dory is on a mission to find her long-lost parents at the next Movies on Madison on Friday, June 16. The feature film will be Finding Dory. The museum lawn will open at 7:30 p.m. for activities, and the movie will begin at dusk. Snacks and refreshments will be available for purchase. This is a family event, so no coolers, pets, alcoholic beverages, or smoking is allowed on the facility grounds.
Flower Pot Painting
Join museum staff in the Nature Playspace as they paint flower pots on Thursday, June 22, at 10:30 a.m. Participants will be able to plant flowers or take some home with them after the activity. This pop-up is for children 4-8 years old, but everyone is invited to attend.
